Designing Modern Luxury: Behind the Scenes of Our Latest Interior Design Project

Tucked just across from The Domain Shopping District in Austin—a vibrant destination known for its upscale fashion, gourmet dining, and buzzing energy—The Addison Apartments presented a thrilling canvas for our design team. With its strategic location and abundant lifestyle amenities, The Addison was poised to offer residents a true live-work-play environment. Our task was to elevate the interiors to reflect this lifestyle—where contemporary aesthetics meet comfort and function.

In this post, we're taking you behind the scenes of our design journey. From conceptualization to installation, here's how we transformed The Addison’s community spaces into modern, cohesive, and welcoming interiors that echo both the vibrancy of its location and the tranquility of upscale residential living.

Understanding the Space: A Project Rooted in Lifestyle

Every successful interior design project begins with understanding the lifestyle of its future users. At The Addison Apartments, the setting told us everything we needed to know. Situated across from one of Austin's premier shopping and dining destinations, the location itself set a tone of contemporary luxury. But it also spoke to a demographic that values connectivity, wellness, productivity, and social engagement.

We approached this project with a goal: to curate interiors that were more than beautiful—they needed to be practical, immersive, and resonant with the rhythms of modern life.

The spaces we were entrusted to design included:

  • The clubhouse, serving as a social hub.

  • An outdoor lounge and entertainment kitchen, perfect for gatherings.

  • Several lounge-style sitting areas equipped with Wi-Fi, encouraging casual productivity.

  • A private conference room, catering to the work-from-home culture.

  • A resident business center, a blend of utility and aesthetics.

Each of these spaces had to communicate with the others visually, while serving distinct purposes. That duality—cohesion and function—formed the heart of our design approach.

Phase One: Discovery and Design Strategy

We started the project with a comprehensive discovery phase. This involved site visits, meetings with the property management and development teams, and a deep dive into the branding of The Addison itself.

We asked ourselves key questions:

  • What emotional tone should the interiors convey?

  • How can we enhance both form and function within the spaces?

  • What design language reflects the aspirational lifestyle of the community?

Given the clientele—a mix of young professionals, digital nomads, and style-conscious renters—we anchored our vision in modern design principles, infused with Austin’s signature casual sophistication. Neutral palettes, natural textures, and warm accents became our starting points. The ultimate goal was to create spaces that felt effortlessly upscale yet approachable.

The Clubhouse: A Contemporary Social Heart

The clubhouse at The Addison functions as the community’s core gathering space. We envisioned it as a welcoming, open-concept area where residents could relax, host friends, or simply soak in the ambiance. Our design infused it with multiple micro-environments, giving it the flexibility to adapt to different uses throughout the day.

Key Elements We Designed:

  • Layered Seating Zones: We curated a mix of modular sectionals, accent chairs, and bar-height counters to accommodate both intimate chats and larger gatherings.

  • Custom Millwork: We added built-in shelving and cabinetry with integrated lighting to offer both storage and visual interest.

  • Lighting Design: We layered overhead fixtures with pendant lights and sconces, adding warmth and subtle drama to the space.

  • Color Palette: A base of soft grays and earthy tones provided a timeless foundation, while navy, brass, and leather accents gave it depth and character.

The result was a stylish yet versatile clubhouse that serves as an extension of each resident’s apartment—a place to work, entertain, or unwind.

Outdoor Lounge and Entertainment Kitchen

The outdoor lounge and entertainment kitchen were among our favorite elements to design. Outdoor spaces demand a unique blend of durability and design, and we were keen to ensure these areas were as visually compelling as they were weather-resistant.

What We Focused On:

  • Materials with Integrity: We selected performance-grade fabrics and weatherproof finishes that could withstand Austin’s climate without sacrificing beauty.

  • Seamless Flow: The lounge area was designed to flow directly from the clubhouse, with furniture layouts that echoed the interior zones for visual continuity.

  • Functional Elegance: We installed a built-in grill, prep area, and bar seating in the entertainment kitchen, surrounded by lush greenery and ambient lighting for evening use.

Lounge-Style Sitting Areas: Casual Productivity Meets Relaxation

Throughout the common areas of The Addison, we created several lounge-style sitting nooks. These semi-private spaces offer residents a chance to take a call, read a book, or do some casual work in a relaxed setting.

Design Intentions:

  • Technology-Integrated Furniture: Each seating area features power outlets and USB ports discreetly built into side tables and banquettes.

  • Acoustic Consideration: Soft furnishings, area rugs, and wall treatments were strategically used to absorb sound and maintain a quiet atmosphere.

  • Aesthetic Cohesion: While each nook had its own personality, we maintained a through-line using matching finishes, textures, and lighting motifs.

Private Conference Room

As the work-from-home movement continues to grow, dedicated spaces for remote meetings and concentrated work have become must-haves in residential communities. The private conference room at The Addison was designed to be both functional and inspirational.

Our Approach:

  • Acoustics & Privacy: We used acoustic panels, thick glass partitions, and blackout shades to ensure both sound control and visual privacy.

  • Tech-Forward Design: The room includes high-speed connectivity, a large screen for video conferencing, and wireless presentation capabilities.

  • Mood and Motivation: With ergonomic seating, a bold accent wall, and subtle biophilic touches, the room feels far from sterile. We wanted users to feel energized, not confined.

This space has quickly become a favorite among residents—offering all the conveniences of an office without the commute.

Resident Business Center: Sleek, Streamlined, and Smart

Unlike the more relaxed lounge areas, the resident business center was designed for focused productivity. We imagined it as a sleek, semi-formal space where residents could take care of business in a professional yet inviting environment.

Key Features:

  • Shared and Private Workstations: We offered a mix of communal tables and partitioned desks to cater to different work styles.

  • Lighting Strategy: Task lighting was central here—warm-toned, non-glaring fixtures that keep eyes comfortable for long hours.

  • Material Palette: Matte black metals, walnut wood tones, and pops of greenery created a calming yet businesslike vibe.

This space is a testament to how residential design is evolving. No longer are work and home separate—they now live together, harmoniously.

Bringing It All Together: A Design Story in Every Detail

What makes The Addison special isn’t just the sum of its parts—it’s the way each space speaks to the others. Throughout the project, we maintained a cohesive visual language, anchored in:

  • Intentional Materiality: Every finish, fabric, and fixture was chosen for durability, ease of maintenance, and aesthetic value.

  • Local Sensibility: From the art to the color palette, we wove Austin’s spirit into the design, honoring its roots while elevating its appeal.

  • User-Centered Design: Above all, we thought of the resident experience—how someone would move through the spaces, how they would feel, and what they would remember.

From the first sketch to the final styling, our goal was to create environments that feel effortless yet thoughtfully composed. The Addison isn’t just a place to live—it’s a place to thrive.
